Respondus Test Software
Respondus Test Software is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Exams can be created offline using Microsoft Word or other text editors. Questions can be imported from many textbook publishers. Respondus can save you hours whether you create simple or complex exams. Faculty may acquire the software or an updated license by contacting us.
The Respondus Test Bank Network also contains thousands of test banks for the leading textbooks in higher education. Instructors who use Respondus can easily create online exams from these official publisher test banks, free for instructors who adopt a participating textbook. More information can be found at their site: http://www.respondus.com/products/testbank/index.shtml
Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is an online tool which works with Blackboard to help prevent online test-takers from accessing applications and websites on their computers as well as printing and copying the test while the test is running. LockDown Browser has also proven to be an excellent way to mitigate Blackboard test crashes. When using the LockDown Browser, students no longer have access to normal browser features which can potentially crash a test (e.g. resizing a window, refreshing the page, switching to another application). Students are locked into the test until they submit it for grading.
For a demonstration of how it works, please view the following:
How do you use Respondus LockDown Browser?
Students will have to download and install the SDSU-specific version of the LockDown Browser and install it on their personal computer. Download the SDSU-specific version of the LockDown Browser.
Faculty can require Respondus LockDown Browser by going into Blackboard, selecting Tools, and then selecting Respondus LockDown Browser. From there you’ll see a list of tests you’ve already created. Click the button to require that any particular test require the LockDown Browser. Do NOT make any changes to your test after you have required Respondus LockDown Browser.

Respondus Monitor is a companion to LockDown Browser that enables institutions to protect the integrity of non-proctored, online exams by using students’ webcams to record them while they take a test. The videos are then available for viewing within Blackboard. Monitor is currently being tested at SDSU and is only available to our beta testers. See http://www.respondus.com/products/monitor/ for more info.
