Course Copy

What is Course Copy?

The Course Copy feature copies selected course materials from one course site to another. For example, you may have created documents in the summer version of the course that you want to add to your fall course site. This feature allows you to combine materials from two or more separate course sites into one.

Important - Start the procedure below by going into the course from which you want to copy materials. This is an important step that will help guarantee that you do not lose course content i.e., your work!

How to Copy Course?
  1. Click on Control Panel link on the left side of the course site.
  2. Click on Course Copy under Course Options section.
  3. Click on Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course.
  4. In the Select a Course section, click on the Browse button next to the Destination Course ID field to open the search for courses window.
  5. Click on the small round button next to the word Instructor. Type your username in the Search field, click on the Search button.
  6. Choose the course you want to copy the materials into by clicking on the Select button next to the course. If you get an error message - simply ignore it and close the small window.
  7. You will see the course ID listed in the Destination Course ID field.
  8. In the Select Course Materials, select the areas you want to copy.
  9. In the Enrollments section, make sure that you DO NOT SELECT THE ENROLLMENTS SECTION.
  10. Click the Submit button.
Options

Content – Copies course materials, including uploading files, learning Units, and links.

Announcements – All Announcements are copied to the new course.

Tests, Surveys, and pools – All Assessments and Surveys, including questions and options for deploying them are copied. All pools are copied to the new course.

Calendar – All Calendar events are copied to the new course.

Collaboration Sessions – All Collaboration Sessions are copied.

Discussion Board – Discussion Board forums, including the initial posts in each forum, are copied to the new course,

Gradebook Items and Settings – Items in the Gradebook, and their settings, such as type, categories, and display options, are copied to the new course.

Group Settings – Settings include the names of the Groups, the settings for tool availability, and the Discussion Board forum names.

Staff Information – All Staff Information is copied to the new course.

Course Settings – Some Course Settings will be copied. Some will not. Following settings are copied:

  • Course Entry Point
  • Course Design
  • Course Banner
  • Tools settings that do not exist in the new course are added to the new course. Existing settings are not overwritten.

Following settings are not copied to the new course,

  • Course ID
  • Course name
  • Course Description
  • Course Availability
  • Guest Access
  • Observer Access
  • Course Duration
  • Enrollment Options

Questions about Course Copy

  1. Can I copy individual documents in a content area from one course to another?

No and yes. From Course Copy feature, you can only copy whole sections of material, based on the following categories: Announcements, Assessments and Pools, Gradebook, Calendar, Categorical Information, Content, Discussion Board, Users and Groups, Settings, and Staff Information. The Content category refers to all content areas—such as Course Information, Course Documents, and Assignments. From within each content area, you can individually copy documents or folders. For detail information about copy individual document or folder, please refer to Content Copy section.

  1. Can I copy files from another instructor’s course?

Yes, but you must be listed as an instructor in both the "To" and "From" course.

  1. Can I copy content to multiple courses at one time?

No, you can only copy to one course at a time.
