What is Course Name?
The Course Name feature allows you to change the name, description, and subject type of your course. After your course site is established in Blackboard by ITS, the name of your course will be listed in the Course Name field. The Course name is created with information from the Registrar's office. It is the official course name of your Blackboard course as listed in the university catalog. This title may have abbreviations and truncated words and be difficult to understand. It is important to use as descriptive a course name as possible. See info regarding this below.
Note: Here at SDSU the Description area is not relevant because students will not see the Blackboard catalog. Do not bother putting anything in this field, as no one sees it.
You might want to add identifying details such as section number or meeting time to the name of your course for easier identification, for example, "Introduction to Psychology (Section 2) —Monday 9am." Remember, that this identification is only relevant to you if you teach multiple sections of courses with the same name. This will allow you to distinguish between sections in your course list.
We also do not use the Course Categorization area, because of the integration with the Registrar's data. However, if you change the title of your class the system will ask you to assign a classification. You can choose any classification from the list - it does not matter which one, because the information is not used anywhere in our system.

Questions about Course Name
- What’s the difference between the Course Name and the Course ID?
The Course ID number, often called the Course Number, is usually a combination of the college or department the course belongs to and the identifying number of the course, for example, CHEM210, for Chemistry 210. The course name is the title of the course.
