End-of-Semester Checklist

Course administration | Instructional review

End of Semester Checklist
  1. Complete all course assignments
  2. Download gradebook to Excel
  3. Transfer chosen content to new semester's sites
  4. Make needed changes to content - time sensitive material, additions, etc.
  5. Test changes and additions
  6. Activate (make available) new sites
The end of the semester is the time to look at your course from two different perspectives.

Course administration

First, look at your course from an administrative viewpoint.

Approximately a month after the end of each semester all courses for that semester will be automatically made unavailable. Instructors may choose to make their individual sites available again, to give students access to course documents and reference materials.

Important: Make sure to download a copy of the final gradebook for your records. See the following link on how to download the Blackboard Gradebook.

One of the biggest benefits of Blackboard is its reusability, the ability to build a course site, and using a simple web form, transfer the material to new sites for upcoming semesters. So at the end of one semester, you can transfer content to the new semesters site, then just edit from there, instead of having to create an entirely new site.

Instructional review

Now look at your course from an instructional standpoint. What worked and what didn't? Did your students have difficulty finding information? Was there limited participation in the Discussion Forums? Were important course materials missing? How could you make it better? Each semester that you use Blackboard you will learn something new. Use the time between semesters to fine-tune your course. If you would like assistance optimizing your course either technically or instructionally, contact the Help Desk and make an appointment for a consultation.
