Media Consolidation FAQ

Thanks to the efforts of ITS, the Library Media Center, and Physical Plant staff, we have successfully completed the transfer of our instructional media collection to the Library. Originally planned for completion in time for the spring 2010 semester, this phase of the project has been completed ahead of schedule.

What does this mean for faculty?

Good News: Starting October 27, 2009 faculty will be able to pickup media from one central location in the Library Media Center located within the Love Library Addition, (lower level of the Information Dome) Room 61.

In anticipation of potential questions from faculty, please refer to the following FAQ:

Q: Does that mean I don't have to go to ITS to pick up media (videotapes and DVDs)?

A: Yes. In fact, this consolidation is intended to make it more convenient for faculty because the Library Media Center is located in the center of campus and maintains evening and weekend hours.

  • Library Media Center Hours
  • Monday-Thursday: 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon to 10:00 p.m.

Note: Because the Library Media Center does not open until 11:00 a.m. please plan ahead for early morning classes.

Q: How do I browse for media titles or search the media catalog?

A1: You can perform a Title search in the Library PAC:

http://libpac.sdsu.edu/

A2: If you cannot find what you need via the PAC, you can still use the ITS media catalog:

http://itsnet.sdsu.edu/

Q: How do I reserve media?

A1: Until the media resource databases have been consolidated, you can still reserve media via:

http://its.sdsu.edu/classic/distribution/catalog/mediacheckout.html

A2: If you are based at the Imperial Valley Campus, use this URL:

http://its.sdsu.edu/classic/distribution/catalog/ivcmediacheckout.html

Q: What is the process for picking up media?

A: For media which you have reserved via the online reservation form, simply go to the Library Media Center and request the item(s) you have reserved. We suggest that you allow at least 24 hours between the time you reserve the media and the time you wish to pick it up.

Q: What do I need to bring with me to the Library Media Center?

A: You'll need to bring your RED ID card

Q: Can I send a student to pick up media for me?

A: No.

Q: What if I have other questions and want to talk to someone?
