* Media Acquisitions

Each year, Academic Affairs provides funding for the acquisition of new instructional media (videotapes, videodiscs, DVD's and CD-ROM's). ITS purchases, catalogs and stores the media in our collection.

ITS notifies Deans, Department Chairs and Media Representatives each Fall of the deadline by which all requests for new media are to be given to ITS. This deadline is typically set for a date about mid-way through the Spring semester.

Faculty may consult with their department's media representative to select and evaluate new media. Media Representatives will often make arrangements for you to preview new materials. Contact your department chairperson to determine who is currently serving as your media representative.

Media Representatives work with their Department Chair to submit requests for new media to their Dean; requests are ranked in priority order as determined by each department's preferred criteria. The Dean's Offices then compile all requests from their academic departments into a single prioritized list for their College (note that your Dean may impose a deadline several days or even weeks earlier than ITS's deadline to allow adequate time for this compilation and ranking process).

ITS begins purchasing new items shortly after all lists are provided to ITS. Ordering, labeling, shelving and cataloging new media is a long process, most of which takes place during the summer. Therefor, items requested during a particular academic year are usually not available for use by faculty until the following Fall semester.
