Phil Denman is a learning designer, user experience consultant, technologist, and educator. He is the Coordinator of Faculty Support for Instructional Technology Services and specializes in designing online and blended courses and creating unique learning experiences that engage students.
At San Diego State, Phil leads a team of instructional designers and educational technologists and administers the Blended and Online Learning and Teaching (BOLT) program, a quality assurance initiative for online/blended courses. Phil serves as Campus Coordinator for the Course Redesign with Technology program, a partnership with the California State University Chancellor’s Office, where he leads redesign efforts for increased student success. He has also taught in the Learning Design and Technology graduate program at SDSU and was recently a presenter at the international SXSW EDU conference.
Phil has worked in various capacities inside and outside of higher education including web design, marketing, product management, usability research, video production, UI/UX design, graphic design, and radio broadcasting. Prior to arriving at SDSU, Phil spent four years designing online courses for the University of California at Berkeley, including helping launch the University’s first fully online Master’s Degree program. He also spent a few years managing the launch of the award-winning online collaboration app Fuze.
