ClickiWiki Overview - SDSU ITS Clicker Picker Project

In Spring, 2006, Instructional Technology Services at San Diego State University conducted an evaluation process of "clicker" systems, also known variously as Audience Response Systems, Classroom Response Systems, Personal Response Systems, Student Response Systems, and many other names.

Clickers enable more interaction between students and faculty in classroom learning situations. Clickers are simply keypads which wirelessly transmit student input to a receiver connected to a computer used by an instructor. Typically, instructors present multiple choice questions to gauge student skills or knowledge; student responses are displayed as a histogram to get a quick snapshot of how well students understand the concept. Much more can be done with the latest generation of RF clickers, especially those with LCD screens.

See the background page for more clicker overview.

ITS has selected eInstruction CPS after narrowing our choices to eInstruction and PRS Interwrite. Details gathered on all five vendors are complete in this wiki; see the "Clicker information" links below. For a summary of the decision process, see the SDSU Clicker picker results. Or, you may download a Word document with the same information.

Site overview

ITS worked with clicker vendors and early adopter universities to narrow our top contenders. This site will collect the information gathered for review and sharing. Vendors/RF systems considered are: eInstruction CPS, GTCO PRS Interwrite, iClicker, Qwizdom, and Turning Tech TurningPoint.

  • SDSU Faculty-weighted criteria - click here to see the weights a faculty committee assigned to various clicker selection criteria
  • Clicker information by vendor - click here to see information received from vendors and other universities about how well each clicker system fulfills the SDSU Faculty-weighted criteria. Each system has its own page to enable a "big picture" view of each system.
  • Clicker information by criteria - same information as the previous, but each criterion has its own page with the responses for each vendor on that page for easy criterion-based comparison of the systems.
  • SDSU Clicker picker results - includes an overview on the selection of the top two vendors, the very even evaluations of CPS and PRS at SDSU demonstrations, the strong student support for CPS, and the overall factors leading to the selection of CPS.

eInstruction adoption
