My name is Brooke Barber and I am a 2nd year student pursuing a degree in Psychology here at San Diego State. My plan is to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in psychology and attend graduate school to earn a Master’s in Education. This is my second semester as a Supplemental Instructor Leader for Psychology 101 and I couldn’t be more excited. I love the program and I really enjoy creating a better learning environment for all students who attend SI Sessions. This is a great opportunity for me along my road to teaching and SI has shown me how to be a leader. I really enjoy helping others and the SI program has given me useful tools and skills that I hope I can share with others to use in all aspects of life and school. Outside of psychology, I really enjoy the outdoors, going to the beach, and hiking with my friends around San Diego.
Hi Everyone! My name is Tessa and I am a fourth year Biology student graduating in May 2018. After graduation, I will be pursuing a Masters of Business Administration degree from SDSU starting in the Fall of 2018. On the weekends you can catch me collecting seashells at the beach, snowboarding in Mammoth, or at Corepower Yoga. I love doing SI for Psychology 101, and I can’t wait to see you in my sessions!
My name is Kelly and I’m from Alamo, California. This is my second year at San Diego State, but I am now a junior! I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Counseling and Social Change. My plan is to attend graduate school to get my masters and PsyD so that I can become a clinical psychologist for teens and young adults. This is my first year as a SI Leader and I am very excited! When I was in Psychology 101 freshman year, my friends and I routinely attended SI Sessions and it really helped all of us perform better on our exams. I wanted to be a part of the Supplemental Instruction program because I know it works. I always had fun learning the material, and I would leave SI Sessions feeling more confident and prepared than when I entered. Psychology 101 was my favorite class freshman year, and I can’t wait to take it again and discuss it with the students I’ll be working with this semester. When I’m not leading SI Sessions or sitting in Dr. Laumaki’s class, I like to spend a lot of my time outside. I go hiking with my friends every weekend, and I am a certified scuba diver.
My name is Haley Green and I am a senior Psychology major and CFD minor. I’m in Delta Zeta and have played trumpet since 5th grade, but my biggest passion is working with children. I have been a SI Leader since the program began in Fall 2015. I really enjoy the program because it offers something special that students can utilize for better grades. That’s important to me because I struggled my freshman year, so I like being able to help students in that same place.
My name is Camille and I am a fourth year student pursuing a degree in Psychology. My favorite pastime is heading down to Ocean Beach, mainly for the dogs! I was born and raised in Orange County and plan to continue my stay in Southern California for as long as I can. I started as a Supplemental Instruction Leader over two years ago, making this my sixth semester involved with the program. I have worked closely with Dr. Laumakis in Psychology 101 since I began as an SI Leader, allowing me to have the knowledge and resources to better facilitate sessions and create a better learning environment for SI attendees. When I first joined this pilot program, I saw an exciting way to begin a path to a future career in psychology. As I continue into my third year, SI has shown me not only great connections and friends, but it has taught me how to be a skillful leader and given me the tools to succeed in all walks of life. I am thankful for what this program has done for me over the years, and I hope as a team we can help the model continue to grow and flourish!
I was born and raised, alongside two younger sisters, in Tijuana, Baja California (México), border town with San Diego, where I received a bilingual education until high school. After graduating high school, San Diego State University became my new home. I am currently a junior who is passionate about human wellbeing and enjoys reading, drawing, exercising, and spending time with friends. My major is Foods and Nutrition, with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies. The SI Program was introduced to me when I enrolled in Psychology 101 (Spring 2016), and proved to be a very effective way to master key concepts from class, as well as, learning and study skills. As a member of the College of Health and Human Services, it has always been my personal goal to help and serve the community; which is another one of the reasons I decided to join the Supplemental Instruction team (in Fall 2016) and have had the opportunity to serve my fellow students for three semesters.
I’m a 2nd year student and this is my first semester as an SI leader! I’m from Granite Bay, Calfornia and I am a psychology major at SDSU. I wanted to become an SI leader because I loved PSI 101 and I thought it would be really awesome to help other people love it as much as I do. One fun fact about me is that I was a competitive dancer for 6 years!
