Effective January 4, 2021, the use of TechSmith Relay at SDSU will be sunsetted. The reason for this change is TechSmith will no longer provide support or ongoing security updates for Relay.
Existing Videos Remain Unimpacted
Previously recorded TechSmith Relay video links will still be viewable and maintained by Instructional Technology Services (ITS) on the video.sdsu.edu server. There is no need to replace or update existing video links in your courses as they will remain the same. Please note that beginning January 4, 2021 TechSmith Relay will be unusable (recordings/uploads will fail) and should be uninstalled from your device(s). New recordings will require one of the alternatives below.
Alternatives to Relay
There are several ITS-supported video tools that you can use for screen capture, including Zoom, TechSmith Camtasia, Canvas Studio, and Mediasite. For more information and resources on how to use these tools please visit its.sdsu.edu/capture. Additionally, Modules 9 and 10 of the Flexible Course Design Toolkit provide guidance on how to capture video content and add interactive functionality to enhance student engagement. To preview the content of the Canvas course, please use this Canvas course link. To add this course to your courses, please use this enroll link.
Virtual Support
The Virtual FIT Center provides faculty and staff with live support, via Zoom, for instructional tools such as Canvas and Blackboard. In addition to ITS staff, IT User Services (ITUS) team members are available for technical support of Google Workspace, Microsoft O365, SDSUid, ServiceNow, campus email and software licensing/distribution. The Virtual Faculty Instructional Technology (FIT) Center is open M–Th 8-6:30 and Friday 8–4:30 during the Spring semester and can be accessed at sdsu.zoom.us/my/sdsuits.
